Good knives are an investment, with the right care and avoiding misuse you will get a return on your investment.

To get the best out of your knives, it is important to follow a few maintenance tips.

Wash knives separately

Wash knives immediately after use and dry them. Avoid prolonged contact with food residues.

Care pays off

Use a neutral or low-alkaline detergent.

Do not use bleach, soda or detergents containing chlorine or free chlorides as they corrode the steel or degrade the original shine.

Avoid rubbing knives with abrasive products, or metal or synthetic cleaners.

It is preferable to wash knives by hand, but if you use a dishwasher, place them with the blades facing down in baskets separate from the rest of the crockery and cutlery to avoid rubbing.

Do not leave knives immersed in water for a prolonged period of time, especially if the water is hard or salty, which could damage the metal.

Dry the cutlery immediately with soft absorbent cloths.

Dishwasher drying is usually not enough to prevent corrosion. Do not leave the cutlery in the dishwasher for too long and finish drying with a cloth.

Store knives in a safe place

All knives should be kept in a safe place and always out of reach of children.

A kitchen knives block fulfils this dual function perfectly, preventing accidents and keeping the blade protected, but a magnetic rack also provides safety and easy access.

If you use a magnetic rack, make sure that the magnet is strong enough and that the knife are clean to ensure your safety.

Keep knives sharp

A sharp knife is safer than a dull one, because the force used to cut is less, the knife don't slip and the hand doesn't tire as quickly.

Sharpening knives regularly and using the right knife for the right purpose help in the daily task of cooking.
